Dear parents of young children: Teach them well.

NOTE: This video might give you the deuce chills if you have a moderate level of computer knowledge...

I'm not going to get into LEET speak or the many inventive ways children communicate. But we still owe it to our sons and daughters to make sure that they have better written communication skills than we do. *

Too often, I find myself in an endless email conversation because the recipient does not read/comprehend all the words I have typed.  I get a partial answer. Then I have to reply again and again until I get all the answers to the questions that I asked in email #1.

Picking up the phone and solving issues in real time could be one solution, but it is only a band aid on the bigger problem: Adults have reading comprehension issues. Too much of what we do on a daily basis is in the form of the written word. Help our children learn from our mistakes. Teach them to pay attention in English class...

* I do not claim to have the bestest written grammar and spelling skillz.  I would be completely lost without spell check and there is no help for my grammar. I just try my bestest...

How about you just vote No, Senator?

Vote_no

As a follow up to my last post, it has become clear that our Senators are back peddling on SOPA/PIPA. The common line out of both NJ Senators is something along the lines of, "it is clear that we can not pass this as it stands. Major changes will need to be made to these bills so they protect a free and open Internet."

This does not mean they are against the ideas in the bills, it simply means that they want to reword things so the bill can get passed with the same overall concepts remaining in the legislation.

I think the new slogan of the anti - SOPA/PIPA movement should be, "How about you just vote No, Senator?".

No run around, no back peddling, let your voting record do the talking and vote these bills down.

If you live in NJ and love the Internet the way it is, click here

For you non technical folks, I'm sure you are hearing a lot about the SOPA and PIPA bills that are soon to be voted on by the House and Senate. I will let the above video explain why these bills will cripple the Internet as we know it.

You can use this tool here to find out where your reps stand on these bills. http://projects.propublica.org/sopa/

If you live in NJ, at the very least call Senator Robert Menedez and tell him that you oppose PIPA and that he should take his name off this bill. Senator Robert Menendez is one of the CO SPONSORS of PIPA!

Even if you do not live in NJ, call (do not email, it does no good as emails get ignored) your represenatives and talk to the intern who answers the phone about SOPA/PIPA.  If your rep has not stated an opinion either way, being in favor or against these bills, ask them where they think they might stand.  If your rep is in favor of these bills, express your disapointment.  If you rep is opposed to these bills, call anyway and thank them for their common sense.

I wrote this first part and then I made my calls and here is where my three reps stand

Menedez: Apparently, last night he released a statement about making sure that PIPA is modified to allow for the Internet to continue to operate in a free and open manner. I could not find a news release on this matter and all I have to support this claim is the Senator's twitter page.  https://twitter.com/#!/SenatorMenendez

Lautenberg: Opposes it but has not released a statement yet.

Rob Andrews: "Completely opposes SOPA/PIPA" that is a quote directly from his office.

Technology! Fuck Yeah!

Do you ever get the feeling that you are actually alive?  Every once and a while I will stop whatever I am doing and realize that I exist.  It is a weird feeling.

I had one of those moments today with a slightly different angle:
  1. I own a device that I carry in my pocket.
  2. It weighs next to nothing.
  3. It connects me wirelessly to all the information I could ever need.
  4. The most amazing of which is the ability to view photos that are less than 24 hours old that were taken by a robot on Mars.

A ROBOT ON MARS!!!!!!

I'm looking at another planet on my cell phone!

My mind is officially blown.
PS: The app is free on the iOS app store.  Search for "Mars Images". I'll bet there is an android version too.
